Drink.

What’s your go to drink? Odds are it’s not gin. Which is sad–because a good gin can taste like whatever you want. Let’s go over my top 3 flavor profiles for gin.

  1. Floral
  2. Herbal
  3. Citrus

They taste just like they sound. People always say “eww” when I say my drinks tastes like flowers–until they taste it. And then they want one of their own. Surprise! Everyone can like gin they just have to try it the right way. And not all gin is sweet. Check out Hendrick’s Limited Edition of Orbium. This gin is floral with a complimentary level of bitterness which stems from the post-distillation additions of quinine and wormwood. We’ll talk a lot about quinine late. Its history is very interesting.

A floral flavored gin is honestly my favorite. I often build upon the existing flavors in a gin by adding a little lavender infused Tito’s or a dash of Elderflower liqueur. Rose, lavender, jasmine, hibiscus, honey suckle, and many more are prevalent in popular gins being distilled today.

Ahh the tasty herbal flavors in gin. So amazing. The most prevalent herbals you’ll find are probably juniper, rosemary,

Citrus flavors, in my opinion, can quickly overpower the actual taste of the gin. So to compliment and not overpower I prefer a citrus twist instead of a wedge. The twist allows the oils to add to the profile of the drink.

Keep in mind for a classic G&T I definitely use a lemon wedge.
